The German paper „Die Welt“ described a performance of the Boulanger Trio as „irresistable“, and Wolfgang Rihm wrote in a letter to the trio: „To be interpreted like this is probably the great dream of every composer.“

Formed in Hamburg in 2006, the Boulanger Trio is now based in Berlin.  Already in 2007 they won the 4th Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition in Norway, followed by the Rauhe Prize for New Chamber Music in 2008. The ensemble has received crucial musical guidance from Hatto Beyerle, Ferenc Rados, Niklas Schmidt, Menahem Pressler and Alfred Brendel.

In the past years the trio has gained an excellent reputation in the world of chamber music and is regularly invited to venues such as Konzerthaus Berlin, Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, Palais des Beaux Arts Brussels, Wigmore Hall London and Philharmonie Berlin. They have also appeared at the Schleswig Holstein, Hitzacker and Heidelberger Frühling festivals.

In addition to the classical and romantic periods, the commitment to contemporary music is also an important focus within the trio’s repertoire. The ensemble is collaborating with some of today’s foremost composers like Wolfgang Rihm, Jens Joneleit, Johannes Maria Staud and Matthias Pintscher. Two CDs have been released by ARS Production, including the first German recording of the trio works by Lili Boulanger. The third CD was released by Hänssler profil in October 2011, featuring works by Johannes Brahms, Franz Liszt and Arnold Schönberg.

The ensemble is named after the sisters Nadia and Lili Boulanger, whose exceptional personalities and uncompromising dedication to music are a great source of inspiration.
